Anubis Highlights

Before the pandemic appraising held many travels and adventures. Below are some highlights from more lighter times in 2019. Here’s to things getting back to normal again!

January

Tara Finley, ISA AM of Anubis Appraisal & Estate Services was proudly nominated to be on the 2019-2022 International Society of Appraisers (ISA) Board of Directors.

Board of Director’s for 2019-2020, as well as the outgoing President Perri Guthrie, ISA CAPP, and incoming President Libby Holloway, ISA CAPP.

February

Had a lovely time being a Silver Sponsor at the Estate Planning Council Symposium of Greater Miami. I represented my company, networked, and caught up with my friend Phil Herzberg of Lubitz Financial Group.

March

I traveled to New York City in order to participate in the ISA Chinese Connoisseurship Short Course during Asia Art Week.  I had the privilege of participating in hands-on classes on Chinese Artwork from the specialist Susan Lehy, ISA CAPP, as well as visiting exhibitions at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Metropolitan Museum, and more!

April

April held the ISA’s annual conference and board meeting in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2019 the annual conference was entitled The Triple Crown of Appraising in honor of Louisville, the horse racing capital of the United States There were multiple classes for continuing education, as well as social gatherings, one of which was located at Churchill Downs where the Kentucky Derby is held! Being a sporting and art enthusiast, I was in my element!

May

In May I was honored with the Jessica Cosgrave Lifetime Achievement Award from Finch College. This award is presented to the outstanding alumni of Finch College who positively impact their communities.  I traveled to New York to accept the award and attend the college’s 25th ceremony for the award, held May 21st 2019.

Celebrating the 25th Annual Finch College Jessica Cosgrave Awards! Pictured at the dinner table is Ronny Cohen, Tara Ana Finley, Agnes Birnbaum, Dr. Porter Carolina Katz, Sally Arthur, Cherly Deknatel, and Jon Deknatel. Ronny, Agnes, and I were classmates and enjoyed catching up.

So much fun seeing Diana and Mark Jacoby at their Phillip Colleck LTD townhouse filled with antiques and decorations!

Re-uniting with friends! Diana and Mark Jacoby of Philip Colleck LTD, NY, NY, who excel in dealing fine English furniture. Diane and Tara were classmates, and both majored in art history at Finch.

June

I had the pleasure of appraising a notable Philip Andreevich Malyavin (1869 – 1940) painting, Portrait of a Young Girl in a Pink Dress, which was property of a private collector from South Florida. This is an exceptional portrait by the artist who is known for his paintings of “Babas” peasant women. The charming young girl sold for a whopping $397, 156.00 (including buyer’s premium) at Bonhams London on June 5th.

July

The summer months are always a sleepy time for me and James, the official cat mascot of Anubis Appraisal & Estate Services. Here James is helping me pack antique books. Poor kitty was tired after only a few minutes. Oh yeah, and it’s my birthday month!

September

September held an appraisal job with beautiful ocean views in Tavernier, Florida. A beautiful location for an estate appraisal of probably the largest collection of porcelain, China, and dinnerware we have appraised so far.

October

October was an extremely busy month for me! The ISA took me to another city, this time Chicago. The ISA Board meeting was coupled with a 3-day course entitled “Connoisseurship of Contemporary Art and Design”, as well as visits to private contemporary collections and the annual Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design (SOFA) Fair.

Celebration of outgoing and incoming ISA Board of Directors and friends at the Chopping Block in Chicago, Illinois.

AT SOFA, we were happy to see a piece from artist Michael Kostiuk of Andy Warhol vacuuming the carpeting of the college I attended, Finch College! It is entitled Andy Warhol Vacuuming the Carpet for an Installation Piece at Finch College Museum of Art.

November

Another exciting art opening, this time at the Lowe Museum, who presented “Diago! The Pasts of This Afro-Cuban Present”

Nercy Cernuda, Donna Johnson, Pamela Dickson, and Tara at the Lowe

December

In Miami, December is synonymous with Art Basel, and I was able to attend loads of fun things during my 2019 art week! One of my favorites was the Lowe Museum’s Bubbles and Brunch event. I attended with a colleague I often work with, Barbara Chamberlain of AIG.
